✨ Overview

This microlearning course was designed to make the complexities of Medicare accessible and digestible for newly hired Sales Agents. Using Articulate Rise, I created a bilingual, interactive, and assessment-driven onboarding module that equips learners with foundational Medicare knowledge — all in a clean, mobile-friendly format.

🧭 The Challenge

Medicare is notoriously difficult to understand — even for professionals working in the field. New Sales Agents needed a reliable, repeatable training experience that simplified key concepts and aligned with job responsibilities from day one. The existing materials were too text-heavy and not aligned with adult learning best practices.

🎯 Learning & Performance Goals

1. Learning Objective: Learners will be able to differentiate between the four parts of Medicare and their benefits.

2. Learning Outcome: Given four customer profiles, learners will match each to the appropriate Medicare part with 100% accuracy.

3. Performance Objective (KPI): Inquiries about Medicare part differences from new hires will decrease by 50% by end of year.

🛠️ My Instructional Design Process

1. Blueprinting the Course: With the objectives in place, I mapped out a learner journey that started with the basics and built toward application. I identified milestone concepts and layered in practice opportunities throughout.

2. Storyboarding for Development: I created a detailed storyboard to guide the development phase in Rise. Each block was clearly described — from copy and interactions to images and assessments — ensuring consistency and flow.

3. Beyond the Screen: To support retention and real-world application, I designed a printable job aid — a one-page cheat sheet summarizing the Medicare parts. This helped turn the course from a one-time learning event into a long-term reference.

🌍 Language Inclusion: Spanish Translation

As a bilingual instructional designer, I believe accessibility includes language. I fully translated the course into Spanish, aligning terminology with the official Spanish Medicare site. This included:

  • A Spanish storyboard
  • A fully developed Spanish course version
  • Cultural sensitivity in tone and examples

📈 Results & Feedback

After development, I shared the course with a panel of instructional designers and beta learners for feedback. Here’s what I learned:

  • High accessibility for diverse learners

🛠️ Revisions Made:

  • Clarified instructional cues in two activity blocks based on user confusion
  • Enhanced contrast and alt text for accessibility

💡 Takeaways

This project brought together many of my strengths — from curriculum design and visual layout to language localization and learning analytics. It reaffirmed my belief that great learning experiences are inclusive, intentional, and human-centered.
